fixtures@ribblevalleynetballclub.com we had teams playing netball across the length and breadth of the North West this weekend. As well as the usual league games around the M60, there was a strong Ribble presence at Chorley Inferno’s junior netball tournament in Horwich on Sunday (9/10) with nearly 80 girls representing the valley across 10 teams.
Teams were entered from Under 9’s to Under 15’s, with several of the younger players experiencing tournament netball for the first time. Fighting off competition from all across Lancashire, the club ended the day with winning teams in the Under 14, Under 12 and Under 9 age groups, with runners up spots also taken by the Under 15’s, Under 11’s, and Under 10’s. A Ribble 1-2 was secured in the Under 9’s, with our team of Under 8’s (!!) finishing runners up. For the Under 14’s it was a doubly successful day, with half the squad having no time to celebrate their victory in the final; instead they had to dash from the court as soon as the final whistle was blown to head over to Stockport, arriving with minutes to spare for their regular league game which they won by a single point margin. Meanwhile, the senior section of the club was playing their first games of the season in the northwest regional leagues with mixed results. With teams participating in both A & B groups, the Group A game saw a reduced strength Ribble fall to a 58-38 defeat away at Bury, whilst those making the long trip to Appleby to face Westmorland Wanderers were delighted to come back with all the points after a 45-50 victory. Well done to all the girls involved, and thanks to all the parents for their support. Well done to Beth Tomlinson and Georgia Ashworth passing their level C umpire tonight.
